YOUR KIDS OT 
DIRECT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES

Comprehensive assessment and report ​
Standardised and non-standardised tests are used to determine a child’s strengths and weaknesses and how occupational therapy may help your child.  A comprehensive report is provided outlining the assessment results and any goals for future therapy.

Individual therapy sessions
Individual therapy sessions are usually 30  or 45 minutes long and may be conducted weekly or fortnightly as required.  Individual therapy sessions may be conducted in the child's home, at school, preschool or child care centre.

Group therapy sessions
Group therapy sessions are usually 45 minutes long and may include 2 or more children.  Group therapy sessions may be conducted in the child's home, at school or child care centre. 

Preschool or School Screening Services
Preschool and school screening services provide a quick overview of a child's play, fine motor, visual perceptual and handwriting skills.  A brief summary report is provided.  These services are provided based on negotiation between the educational setting and Your Kids OT where more than one child are seen.  These educational settings will then work closely with Your Kids OT with any further delivery of therapy sessions to individual children.

Service Location
Your Kids OT operates as a mobile therapy service, providing occupational therapy services in the child's home or educational setting. Your Kids OT is currently working within the Ryde Local Government Area (LGA) and surrounding suburbs.

Your Kids OT has provided occupational therapy services to children at a range of local child care centres, preschools and schools  (government, private and catholic education) in the Ryde LGA and surrounding suburbs.  Services provision in schools is dependent on the agreement of individual directors and school principals.  Your Kids OT strives to work closely with early childhood educators and teachers to provide the best service delivery for each child.  Your Kids OT strives to promote your child's participation and success in the classroom and school environments.


Service Delivery
Your Kids OT main method of service delivery is via individual therapy sessions within school hours.  Most sessions are "pull out" where the child is withdrawn from the classroom for the occupational therapy session.  Informal communication may occur with teachers after each session.  Written communication is provided to both parents and teachers between sessions with an update on a therapy session.  Photos and videos are sometimes shared as well.  Your Kids OT also provides in- classroom collaborations with teachers for individual students, usually to help with carry over of an occupational therapy program.

Your Kids OT also provides individual home-based service delivery for children who are 0-5 years and not attending an educational setting.   Parents attend these sessions and work to carry out therapy goals between sessions.

Your Kids OT seeks to provide a "coaching" method of service delivery.  This relies on the carryover of therapeutic goals between sessions for the best outcomes for a child's ongoing learning and development.

Occupational Therapy Services

Your Kids OT can help your child with the following:
  • Gross motor movements
Your child may demonstrate avoidance of gross motor activities, delay in achieving motor milestones such as crawling, poor body awareness, clumsiness, bilateral coordination, etc. 
  • Fine motor skills
Your child may demonstrate difficulties with establishing a dominant hand, tying shoelaces, using cutlery, holding a pencil, manipulating buttons, using scissors, manipulating small objects (e.g. coins, beads, marbles, etc), strength and control.
  • Handwriting
Your child may demonstrate difficulties with poor pencil grasp and pressure, incorrect letter or number  formation (including reversals), poor spatial orientation, poor legibility, slow writing speed, difficulty initiating a story, difficulty planning stories or getting thoughts on paper or poor posture. 
  • Play Skills
Your child may demonstrate difficulties playing with objects, following games with rules, social skills, symbolic or pretend play.
  • Visual Perception
Your child may demonstrate difficulties with reading, spelling and handwriting, copying from the smart board, remembering sight words, letter and number reversals, poor eye-hand coordination or poor understanding of left/right.
  •  Self care skills
​Your child may demonstrate difficulties getting dressed, toilet training, doing up fasteners, etc.  They may have difficulty with completing these tasks independently. 
  • Planning and Organisation
Your child may demonstrate difficulties thinking, organising and carrying out a sequence of actions such as getting ready for school, completing homework or following instructions.
  • Sensory Processing Skills
Your child may demonstrate heightened responses to touch, sensitivities to noise, seeking out movement, poor balance, impulsivity, avoidance of movement activities, licking or chewing non-food items or poor attention.
  • Self Regulation and Social Thinking 
Your child may demonstrate difficulty understanding their emotions and regulating them according to different situations.  They may over react or under react to problems.  They may have difficulty understanding someone else's perspective, poor problem solving and poor social skills.  Your child may have difficulty with turn taking, waiting or following the rules of a game. 

Your Kid OT is owned and operated by Cindy Chuan, a registered Occupational Therapist based in Sydney, Australia.  Cindy brings over 20 years of occupational therapy experience working with children of all ages.  Cindy's areas of interest and expertise are in early childhood development (0-5 year olds) and primary school age children (5-9 years) who have difficulty with handwriting, visual perceptual, fine motor and/or play skills.

NDIS Information
  • Your Kids OT is no longer registered with the NDIS. 
  • Your Kids OT will provide therapy services to children who have access to self managed funds. 
  • Your Kids OT is not providing functional assessments as part of NDIS applications. 

Funding
  • Your Kids OT is no longer registered with the NDIS.  Your Kids OT will provide therapy services to children who have access to self managed funds.  
  • Your Kids OT is not registered to access the Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan.
  • Some children will be eligible to receive Medicare rebates with a GP's referral for a Chronic Disease Management Plan. Please discuss this with your doctor.
  • Eligibility for Occupational Therapy rebates with your private health insurer will depend on your policy and cover that you have selected.  Please check with your health fund.
