2026 Update: Morning and afternoon routines for school days.
These checklists were designed to build your child’s capacity to be independent in morning and afternoon routines.
Includes 4 girl and 4 boy designs.
Use these visual checklists in conjunction with the Routine Visual Checklists (for self care).
Tips:
- For best printing results select "shrink to printable area".
- Laminate the pages for durability. Specific instructions are included to make the "lift the flap" component of this resource.
- Place these checklists in a prominent place (eg. the fridge).
- Allow time to complete the morning or afternoon routines so that this is not left to the last minute.
- Start by being with your child for the whole routine.
- Show your child the relevant picture and ask them to complete it.
- Ask your child to lift the flap to reveal " tick" before doing the next task.
- Help your child work through completing each picture until they are all completed.
- Provide praise for your child's participation.
- You may need to do this for a few days (or longer) so they are familiar with the routine.
- Remember to open the flaps up again before the next routine is expected (eg. the night before if using the morning routine).
- Once the routine is familiar, encourage your child's independence in completing the checklist.
- If your child forgets to complete an activity redirect them to the checklist to "self-check" rather than telling them the activity that was missed.
- Introducing the timed component may help some children. Use a visual timer and help your child to understand how to check how much time they have. Set realistic expectations for completion within a given timeframe.
